“All disease begins in the gut” – Hippocrates
Though Hippocrates made the above statement over 2000 years ago, it has largely been ignored within the era of modern medicine.
It is now well known that our digestive system houses 80% of our immune system and is the source of 90% of the major neurotransmitter serotonin. It is our main interface with which we engage our outside world as it is incessantly bombarded by everything from stress to poor food to environmental toxins. Because of this, we use functional testing including stool analysis, breath test, and more to reveal the architecture of the microbiome which includes the levels of good bacteria and dysbiotic (imbalanced, non beneficial) bacteria, yeast, parasites as well as digestive enzyme function of the stomach, pancreas, and gall bladder.
Additionally, we obtain information regarding intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), low or high immune system activation (both not good) and inflammation. Abnormalities in any of these areas can contribute to significant symptoms in all areas of the body including brain fog, anxiety, fatigue, fibromyalgia, arthritis, skin rashes and, eventually, an unhealthy, diseased body. Thankfully, our test allows us to properly assess then address these issues to bring healing not just to the digestive system but to the body as a whole. A healthy gut is the foundation for a healthy body and mind!
